Territory terms
Last updated 2026-10-15. Hard Water Feed, a DBA of Compton Consulting Incorporated (Ohio). These terms apply to every
territory.
1. What you are buying
A territory is a named 75-mile service radius, with the counties it
contains published on the territory map. Each week you receive every newly filed domestic
water well in it, ranked by the measured hardness of the groundwater near each property,
with a printable water report for each one, and we mail a postcard in your name to
every one of them that has an address a card can be posted to. Each week you also get
the list of exactly who was mailed.
One dealer per territory. For as long as your territory is active
(mailing or paused), we will not sell that territory’s feed to another water
treatment business.
Exclusivity is held by mailing every new well. If, while your territory is active, a
weekly bill ceiling or a daily limit you have set leaves new wells unmailed for more
than 4 weeks, the hold lapses and the territory may be
offered to another dealer. A pause (section 2) is different: a paused territory is held,
not lapsed.
What exclusivity is not
Worth saying plainly, because the gap between what you hear and what is true is where
arguments start:
- It is not a promise that nobody else learns about these wells. Every
record is a public state filing that anyone may download. What you are buying is the
qualification, the chemistry, the reports and the routing — and that
we will not sell them to your competitor.
- It is not a territory in which nobody else may operate. It is a list
nobody else gets from us.
- Neighbouring territories overlap at the edges, because a 75-mile
radius is not a boundary. A property near the edge of two radii appears in both feeds.
2. Billing, term and cancellation
- You pay $2.50 per card mailed — each postcard
printed and mailed in your name — billed weekly for the
cards mailed that week. The weekly list, the water reports and the list of who was mailed
are included. A week with no cards costs nothing.
- No minimum term. Stop any week by email: no cards go out after the
week you tell us, and you pay only for cards already mailed.
- Nothing is mailed until you have approved a proof of the card with
your name, telephone number and offer on it. Changing the card later means approving a
new proof first.
- Your first 4 weeks are free, up to 60 cards.
You see the cards and the list of exactly who was mailed before the first invoice. The
price per card does not change afterwards; this is a trial, not a rate.
- If a weekly payment fails, mailing stops until it is paid. Every card
is printing and postage we have already paid for, so we do not keep mailing on credit.
Your territory is held while it is unpaid for up to 60 days, the same as a
pause.
- A card the Postal Service returns to us was printed and mailed, and is
billed. Your weekly list marks it as returned, so you can see which addresses the
mail is not reaching.
- You can pause by asking us to mail nothing for a while. Your
territory is held for up to 60 days; after that it returns to
open. A pause does not lapse your exclusivity (section 1).
- If you cancel, the territory is released and may be offered to another dealer.
3. Price
- $2.50 per card mailed, the same in every territory. It is
not negotiated.
- How many cards a week is not up to us: it is how many new wells the state files in
your territory with an address a card can be posted to. A filing that reaches us through
a re-pull of the state’s history rather than the weekly pull is not a new well and
gets no card. You can set a daily limit on how many go out, and a weekly bill
ceiling: cards over the ceiling roll to the following week rather than being
dropped, so the ceiling caps the bill, not the territory.
- Price changes require 30 days’ notice and never
apply to cards already mailed.
4. What you may do with the data
You may work the addresses, mail them, knock on them, put your own
branding on the homeowner reports, load the list into your own CRM, and keep everything
you have already received if you cancel.
You may not resell, sublicense or share the feed with another water
treatment business. That is the only restriction, and it exists because it is the one
thing protecting the exclusivity every other dealer is paying for.
A branded report still carries its data sources and its “not a test of this
well” statement. Branding is presentation, and that is enforced in our software
rather than left to agreement.
5. What we do not promise
Stated here rather than discovered later:
- Not a fixed number of leads. Filing volume is bursty and some weeks
are empty. A territory rather than a county is sold precisely because the aggregate is
steadier.
- No timing better than the state’s own. The week is the
filing week. Wells are often filed weeks after they are drilled, and nobody
working from the public record can do better.
- No promise that a permit becomes a well. In Florida the trigger is a
construction permit issued before drilling. Some are never drilled.
- No claim about the water at a specific property. The chemistry is
measured from other wells nearby, and every report says so on its face.
6. Homeowner privacy
You receive property addresses and area chemistry. You do not receive owner names, and
we never publish them — our build fails if one appears. We hold
no telephone numbers for any property owner, so nothing in this product
can produce a cold call. See our privacy policy.
